The Challenge

Club Mundo Rural needed to re-engineer its existing application into a modern, members-only platform for listing and discovering unique rural properties. The key challenges were to build a scalable and secure decoupled architecture, implement role-based authentication for three distinct user types (Guest, Owner, Admin), and create an efficient administrative workflow for managing users and property listings. The goal was to enhance the user experience for both travelers and property owners while improving backend manageability.

Previous Approach

The previous version of the application was a monolithic system that lacked scalability and had a dated user interface. It did not have clear distinctions between user roles, leading to a confusing experience and significant administrative overhead in managing content and users manually.

Impact of the Challenge

  • Poor scalability limited the potential for growth.
  • A confusing user experience for both property owners and travelers.
  • High manual workload for administrators managing listings and users.

The Solution

I led the complete re-engineering of the platform, implementing a decoupled architecture with a Next.js frontend and Firebase backend. This modern stack provided a robust foundation for scalability, security, and performance. I designed and implemented a role-based authentication system to serve the three distinct personas—Guests, Owners, and Admins—each with their own tailored dashboard and permissions. To streamline administrative tasks, an AI-powered workflow using Google's Genkit was integrated to assist with the property approval process.

  • Architecting and developing a decoupled, scalable application using Next.js and Firebase.
  • Implementing a secure, role-based authentication system for Guests, Owners, and Admins.
  • Designing and building intuitive dashboards for each user role.
  • Creating an AI-powered workflow with Genkit to automate property listing approvals.
  • Ensuring a responsive, mobile-first UI with Tailwind CSS and Shadcn UI.

Key Deliverables

Personas

  • The Guest (Member): Can browse properties, save favorites, and manage their profile.
  • The Owner: Manages property listings and views performance from a dedicated dashboard.
  • The Admin: Oversees the platform, manages users, and approves new listings.

Core Functionalities

  • Role-Based Authentication: Secure login for Guests, Owners, and Admins using Firebase Auth and Google Social Login.
  • Property Directory: A comprehensive, filterable directory of all rural properties.
  • Owner & Admin Dashboards: Dedicated interfaces for managing listings and platform oversight.
  • Favorites System: Allows members to save and revisit properties of interest.

Key Deliverables

  • Digital Foundation & Strategy: A robust server ensuring fast and reliable site loading with all necessary services. Strategy to digitize and automate the business model, aiming to convert users into insurance policy clients.
  • Responsive Web Application: A custom, professional site tailored to the business model, designed to present, promote, and manage the brand and services with an interactive app for all three user types. Accessible, intuitive, and innovative, using the latest design and development technologies.
  • Brand & Content Creation: A cohesive visual identity including logo design, a professional PDF presentation to attract potential clients, and persuasive copywriting to drive action and page-specific content.
  • Automation & Conversion: The web app registers and processes potential users to automate the publication and management of accommodations and insurance policies, manages guest users and insurance quote requests, and includes member certificates for accommodations.
  • Admin Dashboard: A comprehensive admin panel to manage all platform aspects.
  • Promotion & Analysis: Foundational SEO to attract organic traffic and a digital business card/signature with a QR code linking to the site or an exclusive offer.
  • Launch Campaign: An ad campaign on Meta to attract potential customers.
  • Added Value: Consulting, support, monitoring, and an online workshop prototype for collaborative development.

Technical Implementation

  • Frontend: Next.js (React) with Tailwind CSS and Shadcn UI for a responsive, mobile-first design.
  • Backend: Firebase for database (Firestore), user authentication (Firebase Auth), and file storage (Cloud Storage).
  • Server-Side Logic: Handled with Next.js API Routes and Server Actions.
  • AI Workflow: Google's Genkit used to automate parts of the property approval process.

The Results & Impact

  • Delivered a modern, scalable, and secure members-only platform.
  • Improved user experience for all three user roles, leading to higher engagement.
  • Reduced administrative overhead by automating the property approval workflow with AI.
  • Established a strong technical foundation for future growth and feature expansion.
